Buyers beware
Please read the information below, it is important if you are purchasing an Irish Draught with a view to breeding and/or showing in affiliated classes.
We are aware that people are purchasing mares, foals and youngstock and then find they are unable to show them in any breeding classes affiliated to the Irish Draught Horse Society (GB).
This is because either the sire or the dam, or both, have not been inspected or graded.
The terms ‘Pure Bred’ and Registered’ does NOT mean the horse has been Inspected or Graded.
Advertisers using the words ‘Pure Bred RID’ for foals and youngstock are incorrect and possibly misleading. RID was the classification given to inspected and graded stallions and mares between 1979 and 2010.
People associate RIDas meaning ‘Registered Irish Draught’ but by law all foals must be ‘Registered’ with the Society in order to get a passport
IDHS (GB) Showing rules state:
All stock shown in the In Hand Breeding classes MUST be the progeny of a Graded Mare (Class 1, Class 2, RID, AID, or on the Supplementary Grade Up Register) AND by an Irish Draught Class 1, Class 2, RID and RID(GB) Stallion on the Irish Draught Breed Register.
The same rules apply to competing Irish Draught stallions that must be registered or overstamped by the IDHS (GB). Competing Irish Draught Sport Horse Stallions must be registered with the IDHS (GB).
Horse Sport Ireland: Irish Draught Inspection Amnesty: The amnesty expired in 2021, so until the IDHS (GB) receives further information from HSI regarding the possibility of another amnesty, we are unable to allow mares, foals and youngstock that are by a Class 4 (Uninspected) Irish Draught stallion or are out of a Class 4 (Uninspected) Irish Draught mare, to be shown at affiliated classes.
The progeny of either Class 4 (Uninspected) stallions or mares that were not inspected by the end of 2021 are not eligible for future inspection under the present ruling.
The IDHS (GB) strongly advocates the use of inspected stallions and mares in order to preserve and protect the breed from hereditary defects.
Please remember Inspected / Graded = Vetted. All stallions and mares that have been Inspected or Graded and are classified as: Class 1, Class 2, RID, AID, or are on the Supplementary Grade Up Register have all been vetted and been found free from hereditary defects. Note: Class 3 is a Veterinary Failure.
Before making a purchase, you are advised to check the horse’s passport which will state which Grade has been given to the sire and dam.

Description:
FAIRVIEW PLATINUM MITCHELL RID Green book and DNA tested 2 year old gelding. Lovely gentle boy with a fantastic nature. Mitchell is well handled will stand to be groomed, good with farrier, vets , and loading he is very chilled and a quick learner . He is brilliant to catch from the field goes out with mares and geldings and is respectful of the electric fence . Very good being stabled and will spend time on his own whilst the other horse is being ridden. Never anxious or needy enjoys his own company when needed. He is on a farm that has a lot of activity so has seen a lot . Nothing seems to faze him including umbrellas blowing around the yard in the wind he is very bold . His field is next to a road so sees and hears all sorts of traffic . He is not a kicker or a bitter He has good breeding including :Pride de Meath /Ben purple /King of diamonds / Barnvalley pride of midnight. Full history known and I have owned him from 6 months old . To make 17’3 and eventually go grey Mitchell would make a lovely hunts-masters horse or equally in the show ring . Up to date with vaccinations and worming . .
