It is with deep regret that The Irish Draught Horse Society (GB) announces the sudden passing of Nigel Wakefield on 1st March 2026.
A well respected judge for several Societies, he was noted for his knowledge of conformation and ‘way of going’. It was often said that he could spot an unsound horse from a mile away.
He joined the IDHS (GB) on 8th November 2007 and became a Judge for the Society in 2009, for both Irish Draught Conformation and Ride classes. He became one of the Council of Trustees in 2013 where his knowledge of showing proved invaluable.
However, he continued with his love of stewarding from local to major shows all around the country and the IDHS(GB) National Championship Show.
A loyal friend, Nigel will be missed by so many in the equine community, both for his honesty and common sense in any situation.
